Corey Feldman, an alleged victim of childhood sexual abuse, says he is ready to come forward — but not quite yet
By Stephanie Merry October 25
Long before a tidal wave of women came forward with allegations against Harvey Weinstein, Corey Feldman was sounding the alarm about Hollywood sexual abuse. In his 2013 memoir “Coreyography,” he detailed how, when he and his friend and co-star Corey Haim were the biggest child stars of the 1980s, they were allegedly sexually assaulted by men in the industry. According to Feldman, Haim was raped when he was 11. —
The “Lost Boys” star never revealed the names of the men allegedly responsible, however, and since the dam broke on the Weinstein story, the actor-turned-musician has come under tremendous pressure on social media to expose the guilty parties….
In an emotional video he posted to Twitter on Wednesday, Feldman said he wants to make a movie about his experience.
It will be the “most honest and true depiction of child abuse ever portrayed,” he said. He plans to direct, produce and self-distribute it — “with your donations.” He started an Indiegogo campaign for $10 million that will be used for a legal team and security for him and his family, he said, plus funds to create the film.
“Right off the bat I can name six names,” Feldman promised, “one of them who’s still very powerful today.” He also said he can show a link between pedophilia and one of the major studios.
He’s hoping to bring down a pedophile ring with the movie, not to mention revolutionize the film industry, making it safer for child actors….
“Justice will be served,” he promised. “Because this is about good and evil.”
As Harvey Weinstein sex scandal grows, one accuser says his company was negligent
ByVictoria Kim, Victoria Kim and Stephen Battaglio October 25, 2017
As the sex abuse scandal involving Harvey Weinstein expands daily, a lingering question is: What did his company know about his alleged history of mistreating women?
In the last two days, three more women have accused Weinstein of forced sex acts. Actress Natassia Malthe on Wednesday accused him of raping her at the Sanderson Hotel in London in February 2008. On Tuesday, actress Dominique Huett and former production assistant Mimi Haleyi came forward with additional assault allegations against Weinstein.
The board of directors at Weinstein Co. has said they are “shocked and dismayed” by the accusations of sexual assault and misconduct by the mini-studio’s co-founder. Weinstein’s brother, Bob, and an anonymous group of employees have said they were ignorant of their former co-chairman’s alleged conduct.
But Huett says the company knew about the executive’s bad behavior and failed to protect women who came into his orbit. Her lawsuit, the first civil case against the company since the allegations went public, said the studio and its board were “aware of Weinstein’s pattern of using his power to coerce” actresses into sexual acts.
Huett alleged in her lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, that Weinstein lured her into a Beverly Hills hotel for a meeting about her career in 2010 and made unwanted sexual contact. The lawsuit is seeking millions of dollars in damages, including punitive damages and money to cover the costs of medical and psychological care.
Female Weinstein employees were used as “honeypots” to lure victims into meetings under the pretense of normal business, giving them a false sense of security, the suit alleges. Weinstein would then dismiss the so-called honeypot employees, leaving him alone with the victim, an act of trickery detailed in the New Yorker article that first brought sexual assault allegations to light….
A spokeswoman for Weinstein has said that “allegations of nonconsensual sex are unequivocally denied.”….
“We allege the Weinstein Company knew that Harvey Weinstein … was using his position…to bring young, aspiring actresses into vulnerable places where he would then prey on them,” he said….
In all, more than 50 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct. The latest victim, Malthe, a Norwegian-born actress, told reporters on Wednesday that Weinstein barged into her London hotel room in 2008, suggesting that he would offer her a part in an upcoming film if she would sleep with him.
Malthe said that after she told him she was not interested, Weinstein pushed her back and raped her. “I laid still and closed my eyes and just wanted it to end,” she said at a news conference in New York. “I was like a dead person. Afterwards I lay there in complete disgust.”….
Fresh Headache For Murdochs: Bill O’Reilly Got Raise After Secret Payout
October 23, 2017 David Folkenflik
Bill O’Reilly wants you to know it’s all lies, driven by ideology, personal animus and professional jealousy.
Since The New York Times reported this weekend that he had agreed to a $32 million settlement to silence a longtime colleague’s accusations of sexual harassment back in January, O’Reilly has been brawling to defend his already deeply tarnished reputation.
O’Reilly’s former bosses at Fox News and parent company 21st Century — and especially for the Murdoch family that controls both — are fighting to contain fallout on multiple fronts. The Murdochs signed O’Reilly to a contract extension a month after their star host agreed to the secret payout — and despite knowing of at least four earlier instances in which he settled with women over sexual harassment dating back to 2004.
“Nobody pays $32 million to anybody for false accusations,” former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson told HLN.
“It’s shocking and it’s disturbing,” former Fox News host Megyn Kelly said on her new NBC Today show program.
All three Murdochs — Rupert and his sons Lachlan and James — have made pledges to reform the culture of Fox News. The late Roger Ailes, the propulsive force behind Fox News, was bought out as chairman last year after Carlson, Kelly and others accused him of sexual harassment. A host of network executives were forced out over the ensuing year for their ties to Ailes and perceptions they had enabled abusive behavior. The Murdochs paid O’Reilly $20 million to leave in the spring after several previously unknown settlements with women came to light. The network also forced out host Eric Bolling.
And yet Kelly devoted the opening minutes of her Monday morning show to an extended argument that Fox had not done enough.
On her show, Kelly just about set out a roadmap for prosecutors, arguing Fox had betrayed a pattern of hiding allegations through payments and threats, and retribution against those women who spoke up. “This has to stop,” Kelly said on NBC. “The abuse of women, the shaming them, the threatening, the retaliation, the silencing of them after the fact.” ….
Regulators are now assessing more broadly the family’s leadership. The Murdochs rewarded O’Reilly with a new contract and a raise after learning of the Wiehl settlement. That suggests the Murdochs were willing to give O’Reilly a sixth chance on sexual harassment, just six months after ousting their chairman for the same transgression.

Trump staffer resigns after being caught in alleged sex scandal
The Grio Dec 27th 2016
Donald Trump might not be in the White House yet but his staff is already experiencing its first sex scandal.
The president-elect’s newly appointed White House communication director Jason Miller resigned on Christmas Eve just two days after getting the position. He claimed it was to “spend more time with his family.”
This, after people were already talking about how the married Miller was spending time in strip clubs during the campaign with Trump adviser A.J. Delgado.

….In a statement he said: “After spending this past week with my family, the most amount of time I have been able to spend with them since March 2015, it is clear they need to be my top priority right now and this is not the right time to start a new job as demanding as White House Communications Director.
“I look forward to continuing to support the President-elect from the outside after my work on the Transition concludes.”
It comes after another Trump adviser, A.J. Delgado, posted a series of cryptic tweets about Mr Miller in which she appeared to suggest his involvement in a sex scandal….
Ms Delgado, a fellow member of the President-elect’s transition team, referred to Mr Miller as “the baby-daddy” and called him “the 2016 version of John Edwards” – a reference to the former U.S. Democratic presidential candidate who had an affair with a filmmaker working on his campaign.
She also twice called on Mr Miller to resign, before deleting her Twitter account. ….
Halifax children punched in face, locked in bedroom, had no heat and no food

HALIFAX TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Details of the abuse and neglect that three Halifax children endured are forthcoming.
Joshua Ross Weyant and Brandi Jene Weyant, of 1005 North River Road, Halifax Township were investigated by Pennsylvania State Police and Dauphin County Children and Youth Services, regarding suspected abuse and neglect. Police, and children and youth services caseworkers, discovered the allegations were true.
“The kids were starving, nothing more than skin and bones,” said Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico.
The children were ages 4, 5, and 6, according to the police report. Marsico says their deterioration took place over a three-month span.
“These were healthy kids, and while they were in their custody, these parents neglected them, starved them to such an extent they ended up the way they did,” Marsico said. “We’re prepared to prove they neglected these kids to such a point that they were near death.”
The Weyant’s were housing 10 individuals, who resided along with the three young children. The children were ages 4, 5 and 6, an affidavit explains.
The children were found to be in extremely poor health, appearing frail and weak, extremely thin, with identified bruising and abrasions upon their bodies. Photographs were taken of the children that depict them to be extremely underweight and malnourished. The children were independently interviewed by investigators….

Inside the Investigation into Child Sexual Abuse at Sovereign Grace Ministries

How one reporter investigated child sex abuse at a major evangelical church
The February issue of Washingtonian Magazine featured an exposé of long-buried sexual abuse of children in a prominent evangelical church network, Sovereign Grace Ministries. Freelance journalist Tiffany Stanley, a 2015 National Magazine Award finalist, spent 10 months uncovering reports of child rape and molestation in Sovereign Grace churches over the last three decades, particularly at the then-flagship Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Her investigation, “The Sex Scandal that Devastated a Suburban Megachurch,” chronicles the inside story of crimes against children in D.C.-area Sovereign Grace churches, explores how church leaders including founder C.J. Mahaney did and did not respond, and recounts how victims’ mothers joined forces to seek justice.
Unlike the hierarchical Catholic Church, evangelical churches often function independently. But their influence is widespread—as Stanley points out, Wayne Grudem, an evangelical theologian at Phoenix Seminary, once described Sovereign Grace Ministries “as an example of the way churches ought to work….
In response to the Washingtonian investigation, executive director of Sovereign Grace Churches Mark Prater pointed TIME to a lengthy statement he made in 2014 denying that Sovereign Grace leaders “conspired to cover up” sexual abuse. “Yes, we have been the target of misinformed critique in both the secular and Christian media, and more will likely come,” he stated. “I pray that God gives us all grace to respond wisely and biblically. But regardless of the public discourse, we are strongly committed to ensuring a safe environment for the children in our churches….
(Tiffany Stanley) The Catholic Church has been taken to task over abuse for decades now. Evangelical ministries are now facing their own abuse crises. In the media, we’re hearing more about these stories. Some of these allegations confront abuse that is decades old. From just the past year, I’m thinking of reports about Josh Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting and Bill Gothard, a Christian homeschooling advocate. I’m also thinking about Buzzfeed’s recent story on Jesus People USA and Kiera Feldman’s 2012 investigation of abuse in a Tulsa megachurch. (Of course, other religions are not immune from sexual abuse scandals either.)
The sad reality is that sexual abuse is widespread everywhere, not just in religious communities. The statistics I saw were one-in-four girls and one-in-six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. The experts I spoke to didn’t say these statistics are worse in evangelical churches, but they did say that abusers could prey on trusting religious communities, which give them access to children. That’s why churches need policies in place to protect children and handle abuse when it happens. That means reporting suspected abuse to authorities immediately, instead of handling it internally. Abuse is a sin, but it’s also a serious crime….

Prince Andrew Accuser Reveals New Sex Slave Allegation Details in Court Papers
Jan 21, 2015, By JAMES HILL ABC News Producer via Good Morning America
The woman at the center of an alleged sex scandal enveloping influential men on two continents today filed a sworn affidavit in federal court adding fresh detail to her claims and vowing “to pursue all reasonable and legitimate means to have criminal charges brought against these powerful people for the crimes they have committed against me and other girls.”
Virginia Roberts, now 31, alleges she was kept for four years as an underage sex slave of American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who in turn required her to have sexual relations with Britain’s Prince Andrew, renowned lawyer Alan Dershowitz and “many other powerful men, including politicians and powerful business executives.”
She declined to name others in her statement – but her lawyers noted in a cryptic footnote that, if she had, the names would “have created significantly more media attention than the names that she did include.”….
Epstein pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation of prostitution and one count of solicitation of a minor to engage in prostitution. He served 13 months of an 18 month sentence in Florida prison. He was facing a potential 10 years to life sentence if he was prosecuted and convicted on the federal charges. Roberts and other women are trying to undo that agreement, claiming it was illegal because it violated their rights as victims of federal crimes….
A Palace statement earlier this month called her allegations “false and without any foundation,” and a spokesman for the Royal family declined Wednesday to respond to Roberts’ new affidavit….

Melbourne couple plead guilty to abusing a Dutch tourist over six weeks.
A Dutch backpacker who was held hostage in a Melbourne hotel room for six weeks, while her captors repeatedly raped and bashed her, tells a court she is tormented and physically scarred from the ordeal.
The female backpacker was tortured and forced to endure psychological manipulation “of the highest order” at the hands of a Melbourne man who claimed to be possessed, a judge says.
Alfio Anthony Granata, 48, has pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping and assaulting the woman with weapons in his Preston hotel room during a six-week ordeal.
His former partner, Jennifer Mary Peaston, also pleaded guilty in the Victorian County Court on Wednesday to intentionally causing injury to the woman.
The 23-year-old tourist was too scared to leave the couple’s hotel room, and was stabbed, raped, beaten and forced to sleep in the shower.
The court heard Granata variously believed he was possessed by the devil and an ancestor named Toto, and once collected the woman’s nails, hair and blood in an envelope to perform a supposed ritual to destroy her soul….
Judge Frank Gucciardo said the footage depicted the two women facing a “psychological onslaught” at the hands of Granata.
“What’s displayed is psychological torture and manipulation of the highest order,” he said….

In case related to banker Jeffrey Epstein, woman alleges in court filing that she was forced to have repeated ‘sexual relations’ with duke
A woman who claims that an American investment banker loaned her to rich and powerful friends as an underage “sex slave” has alleged in a US court document that she was repeatedly forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew.
The accusation against the Duke of York is contained in a motion filed in a Florida court this week in connection with a long-running lawsuit brought by women who say they were exploited by Jeffrey Epstein, a multi-millionaire convicted of soliciting sex with an underage girl after a plea deal….
The woman, who filed the motion anonymously, alleges that between 1999 and 2002 she was repeatedly sexually abused by Epstein who, she also alleges, loaned her out to rich and influential men around the world.
The document – a motion to expand an ongoing lawsuit relating to prosecutors’ handling of Epstein’s case with two new plaintiffs – alleges that the woman “was forced to have sexual relations with this prince when she was a minor” in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein.
The prince is not a named party to the legal claim, which is directed against federal prosecutors. He has not had any opportunity to respond to the allegations in the legal claim.
The woman is said to have been 17 at the time, considered to be a minor in Florida.
In a 2011 Vanity Fair article, Prince Andrew denied any sexual contact with young women associated with Epstein….
Another close associate of Epstein who is also accused in the lawsuit, Alan Dershowitz, told the Guardian that the woman’s accusations against himself were “totally false and made up”.
The Harvard law professor and esteemed criminal defence attorney who later advised Epstein on how to respond to the FBI’s investigation is accused in the court motion of having sexual relations with the woman when she was a minor and of witnessing the abuse of other minors….
In 2006, the FBI opened an investigation into allegations that Epstein had been paying for sex with underage girls at his Palm Beach mansion for years. By the following year federal prosecutors said they had identified 40 young women who may have been illegally procured by Epstein.
In 2008, however, the federal inquiry was dropped after Epstein negotiated a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to a relatively minor state charge relating to soliciting paid sex with a minor – a 14-year-old girl. He served 13 months of an 18-month sentence and is now a registered sex offender.
Many of his alleged victims have since reached out-of-court settlements with Epstein, who was once considered among the wealthiest investment bankers in the world.
However, two of Epstein’s alleged victims, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, have brought a lawsuit arguing that federal prosecutors violated a victims’ rights statute by failing to consult them over Epstein’s secret deal.
The pair won a significant legal victory in July last year entitling them to see previously confidential documents from the plea bargain discussions between Epstein’s lawyers and federal prosecutors….
Prince Andrew denies involvement in ‘sex slave’ case: Read the claims and the full legal text
The Independent Tuesday 06 January 2015
Below is the full text of the legal document detailing the allegations of the alleged Epstein ‘sex slave’ scandal which is claimed to have involved Prince Andrew. It has been edited only to remove legal jargon and other legal references.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has strongly denied that the Duke of York had and involvement or knowledge of such matters.
First, the paragraph in which Prince Andrew is mentioned:
Perhaps even more important to her role in Epstein’s sexual abuse ring, Maxwell had direct connections to other powerful individuals with whom she could connect Epstein. For instance, one such powerful individual Epstein forced Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with was a member of the British Royal Family, Prince Andrew (aka Duke of York). Jane Doe #3 was forced to have sexual relations with this Prince when she was a minor in three separate geographical locations: in London (at Ghislaine Maxwell’s apartment), in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands (in an orgy with numerous other under-aged girls). Epstein instructed Jane Doe #3 that she was to give the Prince whatever he demanded and required Jane Doe #3 to report back to him on the details of the sexual abuse. Maxwell facilitated Prince Andrew’s acts of sexual abuse by acting as a “madame” for Epstein, thereby assisting in internationally trafficking Jane Doe #3 (and numerous other young girls) for sexual purposes.
Ghislaine Maxwell has strongly and consistently denied procuring girls for Epstein….
UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA
Case No. 08-80736-Civ
JANE DOE #1 and JANE DOE #2 v. UNITED STATES
JANE DOE #3 AND JANE DOE #4’S MOTION PURSUANT TO RULE 21 FOR JOINDER IN ACTION….
As the Court is aware, more than six years ago, Jane Doe #1 filed the present action against the Government, alleging a violation of her rights. She alleged that Jeffrey Epstein had sexually abused her and that the United States had entered into a secret non-prosecution agreement regarding those crimes in violation of her rights. At the first court hearing on the case, the Court allowed Jane Doe #2 to also join the action. Both Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 specifically argued that the government had failed to protect their rights (inter alia) to confer, to reasonable notice, and to be treated with fairness. In response, the Government argued that the rights did not apply to Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 because no federal charges had ever been filed against Jeffrey Epstein….
Epstein also sexually trafficked the then-minor Jane Doe, making her available for sex to politically-connected and financially-powerful people. Epstein’s purposes in “lending” Jane Doe (along with other young girls) to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political, and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information.
One such powerful individual that Epstein forced then-minor Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with was former Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, a close friend of Epstein’s and well-known criminal defense attorney. Epstein required Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on numerous occasions while she was a minor, not only in Florida but also on private planes, in New York, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to being a participant in the abuse of Jane Doe #3 and other minors, Deshowitz was an eye-witness to the sexual abuse of many other minors by Epstein and several of Epstein’s co-conspirators. Dershowitz would later play a significant role in negotiating the NPA on Epstein’s behalf. Indeed, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement that provided immunity from federal prosecution in the Southern District of Florida not only to Epstein, but also to “any potential co-conspirators of Epstein”. Thus, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement with a provision that provided protection for himself against criminal prosecution in Florida for sexually abusing Jane Doe #3. Because this broad immunity would have been controversial if disclosed, Dershowitz (along with other members of Epstein’s defense team) and the Government tried to keep the immunity provision secret from all of Epstein’s victims and the general public, even though such secrecy violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act….
How A Famous Harvard Professor Got Caught Up In A Financier’s Sex Abuse Scandal
Erin Fuchs Jan. 5, 2015
One of America’s most famous lawyers, Alan Dershowitz, is being accused of having sex with an underage girl who was allegedly being exploited by one of his clients.
Dershowitz — a professor emeritus at Harvard Law who’s famous for defending O.J. Simpson — refutes those allegations, which were made as part of a lawsuit filed by lawyers including Paul Cassell (a former federal judge) on behalf of women who were allegedly sex trafficked as minors by the financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Two women are suing the federal government for striking a plea agreement with Epstein gave him 18 months in prison for pleading guilty to child sex crimes. The women (known only as Jane Doe) claim the government violated the Crime Victim Rights Act by failing to notify them of the deal for Epstein, who was a financial adviser to billionaires.
Here’s where Dershowitz comes in. Last week, Cassell and another lawyer for the Jane Does, Bradley Edwards, filed a motion asking the court to add two more Jane Does to the case. That motion stated that a girl known only as Jane Doe #3 had been forced to have sex with “powerful people,” including Dershowitz, who had represented the financier….

Labour MP claims vested interested are seeking to protect ‘high profile’ abusers
By Rosa Prince, Online Political Editor 22 Dec 2014
The Government is deliberately sabotaging the inquiry into historic claims of child abuse to protect “high profile figures,” a Labour MP has claimed.
Simon Danczuk, the backbencher who has led the calls for an inquiry into allegations of abuse dating back decades, said the problems which had dogged the probe set up last summer appeared to have been “quite deliberate mistakes by people in central Government.”
A letter leaked at the weekend showed that Theresa May, the Home Secretary, is considering abandoning the current panel, amid a catalogue of problems including the resignations of two chairman.
A victims’ representative said the only people who wished to see the inquiry fail were the abusers themselves.
Asked if he thought Theresa May, the Home Secretary, was responsible for a deliberate cover-up, Mr Danczuk said he was confident she wanted to get to the truth.
But he warned that victims could engage in “direct action” unless they began to see justice….

Tory Rob Wilson demanded action after a tape recording released yesterday suggests the disgraced DJ’s deeds were known by senior staff but this crucial evidence was omitted from the findings of an official investigation.
The five-minute edited recording of a conversation between former news executive Nick Pollard and an unnamed journalist was posted on the Guido Fawkes political blog.
Mr Pollard led a review into the sequence of events surrounding Newsnight’s shelved report into Savile’s activities which eventually led to a crisis at the corporation.
The Pollard review cost a staggering £2.8million but there were calls last night for a re-examination of the evidence surrounding the scandal.

(Reuters) – Celebrity publicist Max Clifford on Friday became the first high profile figure to be charged in a wide-ranging investigation into a sex scandal that has grabbed front page headlines in Britain in recent months.
Clifford, 70, was charged with 11 counts of indecent assault, prosecutors said, including on two underage girls, after being arrested in December as part of an investigation into sex crime allegations against the late Jimmy Savile….

Jimmy Savile, once the biggest star in the BBC’s pop pantheon, was obsessed with sex and that fact came to light during his many visits to Ireland in the early Seventies.
According to the Daily Mail the disgraced media personality who was revealed to be a pedophile after his death was heard making suggestive comments to young Irish girls he met, sometimes in front of their own parents. Later he bounced young girls on his knee without challenge.
The star, most famous for his turns on Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It, was a regular visitor to Ireland throughout his decades long career and for the first time an eyewitness has come forward to document his behavior.
RTE’s former head of entertainment David Blake Knox, who was paid to spend a day with Savile while he attended a charity event in Ireland in the 1970s has come forward with a shocking portrait of the British DJ and charity fundraiser.
‘My abiding memory of Jimmy Savile is that he talked about sex the whole time. I was actually quite shocked because I wasn’t used to hearing adults talking about sex as crudely as he did. The way he talked about young women was shocking. I remember him making suggestive comments to young girls sometimes in front of their parents, and even priests,’ Blake Knox told the Evening Herald….

Top of The Pops producers who first signed up Jimmy Savile in the 1960s thought he was ‘dodgy’ because of his background on the club scene in Leeds
Savile’s background sparked initial concerns among the show’s bosses
It is claimed he was thought of as ‘dodgy’ and ‘you didn’t cross him’
But despite that the BBC hired him and he went on to be a regular Top of the Pops presenter for 20 years
The Corporation now embroiled in a sex scandal after scores of women claim they were abused by the DJ
By Leon Watson 2 November 2012
The BBC producers who first signed up Jimmy Savile to present Top of the Pops had doubts over whether he was suitable and thought he was ‘dodgy’, it was claimed last night.
Savile’s background as a club DJ and manager sparked initial concerns among the show’s bosses in the early 1960s before the allegations of sex abuse that have now engulfed the BBC emerged.
Paul Jackson, the producer of hits shows Red Dwarf and The Young Ones, and a former head entertainment at both the BBC and ITV, said BBC entertainment producers initially rejected Savile….
Jimmy Savile was an emperor with no clothes – and a celebrity cloak
Savile’s invisible but dazzling cloak of fame stopped everyone from suggesting he was exactly the scary, child-catching creature he seemed to be
Deborah Orr The Guardian, Friday 2 November 2012
It’s part of the grooming process to persuade the victim it’s wrong to think badly of the abuser. In that respect, Jimmy Savile groomed the nation. Children rarely said the emperor was naked – sometimes all too literally. But even when one did, the cry was never taken up. Adults also kept their suspicions quiet, even when they were strong. It seemed wrong to think badly of Savile, though many secretly did.
It’s telling, this collective failure to point at Savile and suggest he was just the scary, child-catching creature of nightmare he appeared to be. People tend to believe what’s easier to bear. Sadly it’s easier for a child to bear the idea that they deserve abuse than it is for them to believe the adult world does not protect the innocent….
Jim fixed nothing: Growing up in 1970s England with Jimmy Savile
Magical figure now accused of widespread abuse
Chris Jones Theater critic November 4, 2012
….There have been so many claims made against him — many of which entail stories of abuse involving girls, barely in their teens — that Savile’s estate was frozen Thursday by bankers who have realized that they will likely need to pay compensation. If Savile’s knighthood had not officially died with him in 2011, that would likely be gone too. His name has been stripped from buildings. An honorary degree has been rescinded. Even his gravestone has been broken up and sent to a landfill.
As with the Jerry Sandusky affair at Penn State University — with which the Savile affair has many horrible similarities — there has been a great deal of fallout from what appears to have been a multi-decade sequence of abuse by a TV star, cloaked in philanthropic good works, who had his own keys allowing him access to children’s hospitals and so much power that nobody dared take him on. There is the question of why his bosses and colleagues at the BBC, many of whose careers are now besmirched, did not confront him, given the repeated rumors of his attraction to young girls. As at Penn State, Savile’s bosses did nothing for, it seems, much the same reasons: It would be messy; it wasn’t entirely clear, if you didn’t want it to be; it might upset bigger bosses; and the brand of the organization (both, strikingly, are nonprofits) would be hurt by the finding out of the truth.
If the Sandusky affair revealed much that was disturbing about the culture of college sports, the Savile affair has done the same for the British media, especially in those tightly controlled pre-Internet days, when personal brands were carefully protected, bad behavior was laughed off as good showbiz fun and outside reporters could easily be manipulated or purchased. Savile, it now is clear, was a master of such manipulations, maintaining distinct private and public personas with formidable care. So potent was his brand and so associated was it with the unassailable, he just had to dangle a few threats about charities and money he raises for children, and the nosy reporter would look elsewhere for those rumors about underage girls. Ordinary pop stars didn’t raise all that cash for kids. Easier to bring them down.

BBC in a spin as sex scandal escalates
October 27, 2012
A long list of blunders over its treatment of molester Jimmy Savile is haunting the broadcaster, writes Jane Wheatley.
He was the biggest television star in Britain, courted by prime ministers, princes and the Pope. And now the millions of people who had watched, laughed at and grew up with the late Sir Jimmy Savile, OBE, KCSG, are trying to come to terms with the fact that he had been sexually abusing underage girls for 50 years. It was shocking, people agreed, and yet somehow not surprising: when you watch old clips of him fondling star-struck children, it all seems so obvious – and shameful. Why hadn’t they realised?
More to the point, why did the BBC fail to investigate the rumours that we now know were rife in the ’60s and ’70s: that their golden goose, kingpin of top-rating shows Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It , was entertaining young girls from studio audiences in his dressing room and at post-show parties, delivered to him by program assistants. Or that when he was out on the road running for charity he took young fans to bed in his campervan.
And after Savile’s death last year, why was an investigation into his predatory activities by the BBC’s flagship current affairs show, Newsnight, suddenly dropped – to be followed a month later by two fulsome tribute programs? And why did the BBC file away incendiary evidence gathered by Newsnight producer Meirion Jones and reporter Liz Mackean, only to see the same material used by its arch competitor, ITV, in a report screened a year later, which delivered compelling testimonies from more of Savile’s alleged victims….
The allegations are bad enough: that Savile not only cherry picked young fans for sexual favours, but targeted the most vulnerable – in hospitals, at Broadmoor secure psychiatric institution and at Duncroft, an approved school for emotionally disturbed girls. As a celebrity volunteer and fund-raiser he was often given his own flat or dressing room where he took his ”victims”. “The younger the better,” was Savile’s motto, according to his biographer, Dan Davies.
But Savile was not particularly secretive about his activities – staff at those institutions now seem, at some level anyway, to have known what he was up to. So why did nobody do anything?
One by one, Savile’s former BBC colleagues and producers were hauled out of retirement as Panorama presenter Shelley Jofre asked that question.
As a young reporter, Martin Young joined Savile on a charity run and found him lying on the bed in his campervan with a teenage girl.
“I thought he was a pervert,” Young told Jofre. Did he think about reporting it? “No, it never crossed my mind, and I take my share of blame for that.”
Reporter Bob Langley saw girls – “12, 13, possibly 14, definitely not 15” – coming out of the campervan. “[Savile] indicated to me in a nudge-nudge sort of way that he had just had sex with one of them … Should I have reported it? What would have happened? He would have said it was a joke and that would be the end of it.”
On one show Savile brought his friend Gary Glitter – later a convicted paedophile – onto the set, where they both sat cuddling young girls. “I’m giving girls away here,” Savile chortled. “We’ve got them from everywhere, we’ve even got some from Broadmoor.” He was routinely filmed in clinches. “The BBC bought into Savile’s sexually suggestive style big time,” Jofre said….
