Finally, there would be justice for teenager Kirsty Theologo. A life sentence for Lindon Wagner. Twenty years for his accomplice cousin, Robin Harwood.

….It was on October 21, 2011, when Wagner, Harwood and two other friends lured Theologo and her best friend, then 14, to a koppie behind a swimming club in Linmeyer, south of Joburg.

There they bound Theologo, smashed her head with a rock, doused her with petrol and set her alight as a sacrificial offering to the devil. They also set her friend alight. Theologo died a week later from severe burns.

Wagner was handed a life sentence for the murder and a further 18 years for trying to murder her friend. Harwood was sentenced to 20 years for being an accomplice….

India’s top court has stopped an inhuman practice of “dedicating” young girls to the goddess in a southern Indian temple, a ritual that eventually pushes victims into life-long sex slavery.

The court intervention came even as the fate of hundreds of helpless girls was being decided by the “holy men” who fancied that the children should be ceremonially dedicated to the goddess as “Devadasis”, or temple prostitutes, on the full-moon night of 14 February.

Young women are dedicated to the goddess when they are about five years old and are forced to become sex slaves when they reach puberty.

The Devadasi system is a form of public prostitution traditionally authorised by the custodians of religion until it was banned in the country in 1988.

Devadasis “serving” in temples are auctioned to priests, rich men or landowners, and then they become the “property” of the village, often ending up in brothels.

Every year, young girls from poor and Dalit (lower class) families are sexually exploited for the rest of their lives after being forced to “marry” temple deities in a rite commemorated publicly in Davangere district in the state of Karnataka whose capital is Bangalore, the information technology hub of India….

Quoting a report by the NCW, the bench noted that the practice continues in many rural areas of India, and that an estimated 250,000 lower-caste women are living as Devadasis, after being forced into a barbarous life of prostitution in the guise of custom.

“Even though outlawed, the Devadasi system persists, forcing women into a life time of sexual exploitation,” the court noted.

Dalit women have traditionally been more vulnerable to being sold as Devadasis by priests and village elders who play the religion card to justify such institutions….

Adolfo Constanzo biography
Born on November 1, 1962, Adolfo Constanzo was a serial killer in the 1980s, whose religious cult performed ritual murders. In 1983, Constanzo traveled to Mexico City, where recruited his first disciples. After multiple killings, he managed to evade police by hiding out at his Mexico City ranch until a 1989 raid, during which he asked his fellow cult member to shoot him dead.

Free to worship as he wished, Adolfo started an apprenticeship with a Haitian priest, who taught him the skills he needed to “profit from evil.” Constanzo, now in his teens, cruised gay bars committing petty crimes and robbing graves to stock his priest’s cauldron. By 1976, Constanzo believed he was developing psychic powers, supposedly predicting the 1981 shooting of President Ronald Reagan.

In early 1983, Constanzo pledged himself to Kadiempembe, his religion’s version of Satan….

During this time, police believe Constanzo began to feed his cauldron with human offerings. According to their records, authorities say he and his cult were responsible for at least 23 ritual murders around Mexico City….

Constanzo scheduled another ritual killing for March 13, 1989, in order to ensure the safe passage of a shipment of illegal drugs. The victim’s suffering, however, wasn’t sufficient for Constanzo. “They must die screaming,” he insisted, telling the cult members that he wanted an American student for his next ritual. The group lured 21-year-old Mark Kilroy, an affluent American student, to their van. When the young man tried to escape, the group bludgeoned him in the back of the head with a machete. The group was elated by the sacrifice. Kilroy’s death, however, would turn out to be a fatal error for Adolfo Constanzo….

Johannesburg – Lindon Wagner, found guilty Kirsty Theologo’s murder, had a troubled childhood and was rejected by his father, the High Court in Johannesburg sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court heard on Tuesday.

Lydia van Niekerk, for Wagner, said the rejection Wagner suffered during his childhood when he tried to reach out to his father had a serious impact on him.

Wagner started taking drugs from an early age, became an addict, and had a long history of drug abuse….

Cousins Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty for their part in the murder of Theologo as well as attempted murder and assault.

Johannesburg – Robin Harwood, found guilty of the murder of Kirsty Theologo, lived almost in a fantasy world, the High Court in Johannesburg sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court heard on Tuesday.

“He was immature, almost lived in an unreal, fantasy world,” his lawyer Gail Sidwell said during arguments in mitigation of his sentencing.

She said Harwood and his friends took drugs and alcohol, and that drugs made him aggressive.

Cousins Lindon Wagner and Harwood are to be sentenced for their part in Theologo’s murder, as well as attempted murder, and assault….

Theologo and her friend, who was 14 at the time, were assaulted, doused with petrol and set alight in a Satanic “soul-selling” ritual on a hill in Linmeyer, Johannesburg, in October 2011.

Theologo died in hospital of her injuries a week later. Her friend survived the attack….

A 15-year-old girl has been horrifically murdered in Houston in what appears to be a satanic ritual killing. She was found with an upside-down cross carved into her stomach and religious items placed in a circle around her partially naked body.

Police say Corriann Cervantes was abducted, then raped and bashed in the head with the lid of a toilet tank and an ashtray until she died. She was kidnapped on Wednesday, but her body was not found until Saturday morning.

Police arrested 17-year-old Jose E. Reyes and a 16-year-old classmate of Corriann’s, who knew her from the alternative high school they both attended in Clear Lake, Texas.

Reyes confessed to the horrific crime and said he had killed Corriann so that his younger friend could ‘sell his soul to the devil,’ according to KTRK-TV….

One of the neighbors who found her body said there were religious items placed around her body, according to KTRK….

HOUSTON (KTRK) — Houston police have arrested two suspects for the vicious murder of a 15-year-old Clear Lake girl, whose body was found in an apartment that police say had evidence of “occult activity.”

….According to law enforcement sources, Reyes confessed to killing Cervantes with a friend, so his friend “could sell his soul to the devil.” Cervantes was found partially clothed and had severe head trauma and numerous brutal injuries. They say she had a broken toilet tank lid around her head and an upside-down cross carved in her stomach.

Police arrested the Reyes after receiving information from the Webster Police Department that he had confessed to a family member. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested at Clear Path Alternative school in the Clear Creek School ISD….

Theory Advanced by the Study: False childhood memories can be implanted into adults by repeatedly stating the false memory as true.

Conclusion: The study’s theory and methodology are not reliable under either Frye or Daubert standards….

For example, any attempt to use the Lost in the Mall study to prove or disprove that a person is telling the truth about sexual abuse should be unsuccessful simply because memories about getting lost in a mall have nothing to do with memories of being sexually or physically violated.

Put another way, the capacity to make a person falsely believe they were once lost in a mall does not “fit” and bears no relevance in a dispute over whether a person can be made to falsely believe they were sexually abused as a child….

While other studies come close to replicating the methods used in Lost in the Mall, the results themselves have never been replicated. This is important because replication of results is what makes the methodology and statistical significance of the original experiment reliable.3

Lost in the Mall fails the reliability test under this factor for two reasons. (1) It has not been repeated using the same methodology4 and (2) similar studies have obtained widely varied results….

The fact that an error rate was never calculated indicates an attempt to avoid publishing unwanted results.12 An attempt to account for this glaring anomaly is apparent because the author writes about “clarity ratings” as a seeming alternative to an error rate. This raises even greater concerns and adds nothing to an assessment of reliability because “clarity rating” is a meaningless term under Daubert….

Mixed feelings over Theologo verdict 2013-11-07

Johannesburg – Two men were convicted of the satanic murder of Kirsty Theologo on Thursday while a young woman escaped jail, evoking mixed feelings outside court.

A fourth accused, Harvey Isha, was acquitted of all charges.

Linden Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty in the high court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court of the assault, murder and attempted murder of Theologo, 18, and her friend who was 14-years-old old at the time….

Wagner had told the court that something had come over him when he attacked his friend Theologo.

He admitted that he had intended to sell his soul that night in return for power but nothing had happened.

He gave a detailed account of how a five-pointed star was drawn at the place where the girls were to be sacrificed. A fire was made and a bible was thrown into it. He and some of his co-accused then cut their hands and dripped their blood into the blaze.

Some of them had planned to eat Theologo’s flesh, drink her blood and burn her body.

Wagner said his and the other ritual partakers souls were meant to be received by the beast referred to in a Bible passage in the book of Revelations….

Theologo family calls for tough sentences

JOHANNESBURG – Kirsty Theologo’s family on Thursday said while they’re happy two of the four people accused of killing her have been convicted of murder, they’re feeling anxious ahead of sentencing on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday, Lindon Wagner and Robin Harwood were found guilty by the high court sitting at Palm Ridge Magistrates Court of the premeditated murder of the 18-year-old and the attempted murder of her 14-year-old friend, who sustained severe burns in the attack.

Theologo’s mother Sylvia says she’s relieved the trial is almost over and hopes Judge Geraldine Borchers will hand out lengthy sentences to the two convicted killers.

Thursday’s judgment marked the end of the ordeal for co-accused Harvey Isha, who was acquitted of all charges….

Johannesburg – Evidence presented in the trial of four people accused of murdering Kirsty Theologo was summarised on Monday by a prosecutor in the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge.

Linden Wagner, Courtney Daniels, Robin Harwood, and Harvey Isha are charged with murdering Theologo, 18, and attempting to murder her 14-year-old friend in October 2011….

He said he poured petrol on her and set her alight as part of a Satanic “soul-selling” ritual, which was meant to awaken the beast spoken of in the Bible.

He and the others then chanted a poem calling on the beast to awaken, but nothing happened.

Wagner said he and his co-accused had hoped to gain certain things from the ritual. He was hoping to gain power.

He told the court they drew a five-pointed star and put a Bible in a fire….

Two others, Lester Moody and Jeremy King, earlier confessed to the killing and were sentenced to 17-years in prison, five of which were suspended.

Father Finian Egan (78) convicted on seven counts of indecent assault and one count of rape

An Irish priest has been found guilty of child sex offences committed in New South Wales over a period of 26 years.

Father Finian Egan was convicted in the Australian District Court on seven counts of indecent assault and one count of rape between 1961 and 1987, while he worked as a priest at two parishes in Sydney and one on the state’s central coast. He was found not guilty on one count of indecent assault.

Egan (78), who worked as a priest and youth worker in several dioceses, was found guilty of repeatedly abusing girls aged 10 to 17….

After Egan told the girl she had “beautiful hair”, she asked a nun to cut it off.

“I thought if I didn’t have nice hair he wouldn’t be interested in grabbing hold of me,” she said.

When the victim, who cannot be named, eventually told a nun about the sexual abuse by Egan, she was called a “filthy little liar” and forced to drink several doses of castor oil as punishment….

Egan had denied the allegations against him.

In May 2008 Egan was allowed to go home to Ireland and say Mass, despite allegations of sexual abuse against him. The Irish Catholic Church was not warned about the allegations.

Sandy Cameron and Alyson Leslie will join the committee’s chair, Frances Oldham QC, if their selection is ratified by States members in December.

The panel will then be ready to begin hearing from victims of abuse and other witnesses early next year….

No amount of time or institutional muscle can match the power of the truth.

With the impending release of a Victorian parliamentary inquiry report, it appears the truth of institutional responses to child abuse is about to come out.

Abuse survivors have high hopes for the report’s findings, which come after an arduous 12 months of hearings around the state, involving often graphic and harrowing stories of sexual and physical abuse.

Judy Courtin, who is doing a PhD on sexual abuse and the Catholic Church, said the release of the report was hugely significant for victims.

“I think it will be a huge day for the victims and their families,” she said….

Among the testimony was the startling accusation from police that the Catholic Church destroyed evidence, shielded pedophile clergy members and put its own image ahead of the needs of victims.

In its response, the church acknowledged past failures but said it was not aware of a single example of a clergy authority not cooperating with police….

THE child sex abuse royal commission will hold another round of private sessions in three cities this week due to strong demand from victims.

Almost 700 people have shared their experiences since the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse started private sessions in May.

Commissioners will again be in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide from Wednesday….

She said the private hearings showed where and how systems had failed child victims….

Clinical psychologist Suzette Heath said Robin Harwood seemed to believe his role in Theologo’s killing was all part of God’s plan.

Theologo, 18, was doused with petrol and set alight on a hill in Linmeyer in October 2011 as part of a “soul-selling” ritual.

She died in hospital a week later, while her friend, who was 14-years-old at the time, survived the attack.

Johannesburg – The alleged mastermind of a deadly satanic ritual expected Satan to appear after calling on him in a chant, the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge, heard on Friday.

“I expected something to happen,” said Linden Wagner, who wrote the poem that he and his accomplices chanted after he assaulted and set alight his friend Kirsty Theologo, 18, and throttled her 14-year-old friend.

“In American films, people who sold their souls died physically and then came back to life,” he said.

On Wednesday, Wagner testified that he had wanted to sell his soul so he could gain power.

“When you sell your soul, you gain something. You can gain money, power and fame,” he said.

The attack on Theologo and her friend occurred at a hill in Linmeyer, in Johannesburg south, in October 2011.

Theologo died of her injuries a week later, but her friend survived….

Johannesburg – Murder accused Linden Wagner wanted to apologise for his role in the alleged satanic killing of Johannesburg teenager Kirsty Theologo and the assault of her friend, a court heard on Thursday.

Wagner told the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge, that he had written letters to the girls and their families, which they had initially refused to accept….

He looked at Theologo’s friend, seated in the public gallery, while he said this. She raised her middle finger at him. She was 14 at the time of the attack….

The girls were assaulted and Theologo was set alight as part of an apparent satanic ritual at a hill in Linmeyer, in October 2011….

Wagner, Harvey Isha, Robin Harwood, and Courtney Daniels are on trial for Theologo’s murder and the attempted murder of her friend, and for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. All have pleaded not guilty.

Two other accused, Jeremy King and Lester Moody, confessed to the crime and were each sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment, five of them suspended….

A satanist teenage girl who confessed to killing her friend was sentenced to in effect eight years in juvenile prison by the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge.

Judge Geraldine Borchers imposed a sentence of 10 years, two of them suspended, and ordered that it be served in the juvenile section of the Leeuwkop prison.

In a statement, the teenager confessed to killing Keamogetswe Sefularo on March 1, near Randfontein, after Sefularo decided to leave a cult….

The court heard that the girl had hoped to gain financially from satanism.

She believed her spirit would be able to get into key holes and into a bank where she could steal money, said Borchers.

It was horrific that such a young person could be lured into satanism because of a desire for money, she said….

The entire Kyekyewere community in the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality in the Western Region was thrown into a state of shock when a resident of the community beheaded his four-year-old stepdaughter.

The suspect, identified as Kwesi Qaison, 45, was said to have beheaded the stepdaughter, Effua Otoo, for ritual purposes, but an angry mob lynched him afterwards….

Polish Archbishop Jozef Michalik Sex Abuse Comments Prompt Outrage: ‘Child Seeking Love’ Because Of Divorced Parents

WARSAW, Oct 8 (Reuters) – Poland’s most senior Catholic  cleric said children with divorced parents were sometimes more  vulnerable to sexual abuse by priests, remarks that prompted a  storm of outrage though the church later said it was a slip of  the tongue.

The comments from Archbishop Jozef Michalik entrenched the  view among some younger Poles that the church is out of touch  with modern society and failing to properly confront allegations  of sexual abuse by priests.

In comments shown on Tuesday by broadcaster TVN24, Michalik  said child sexual abuse by priests was unacceptable, but the  debate about it needed to be broadened out beyond the immediate  physical or psychological wounds inflicted on the victims.

“And one has to say … how many wounds are inflicted when  parents divorce? We often hear that this inappropriate attitude  (paedophilia), or abuse, manifests itself when a child is  seeking love,” said the clergyman, who is head of the Roman  Catholic episcopate in Poland….

Johannesburg – There was talk of having sex with Kirsty Theologo and her friend before they were set alight in an apparent satanic ritual, the Johannesburg High Court heard on Thursday.

“Lester (Moody) said we must sleep with the girls, not rape them,” Linden Wagner, the alleged mastermind of the ritual, told the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

He said he did not agree with the suggestion.

Earlier, Wagner told the court that he and four of the other accused had been prepared to sell their souls on the day Theologo and her friend were doused with petrol and set alight in an alleged satanic ritual on a hill in Linmeyer, Johannesburg, in October 2011.

Theologo died of her burns a week later, but her 14-year-old friend survived the attack….

(CNN) — It would not be surprising for an associate pastor to pray with his parishioners.

But Jorge Juan Castro wound up preying on them instead, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday. He is accused of raping more than 20 women, many of whom are Spanish-speaking, undocumented immigrants.

The alleged abuse began in October 2004, shortly after Castro took a job as associate pastor at Las Buenas Nuevas Church in Norwalk, and continued until September 2012, the department said in a news release….

JOHANNESBURG – On the night of 21 October 2011, Kirsty Theologo was strangled and fell to the ground. She managed to get up and was strangled once again – until she “passed out.”

A South Gauteng High Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni, heard testimony on Tuesday from Robin Harwood, who is one of the four people on trial for her murder.

Courtney Daniels, Robin Harwood, Harvey Isha and Lindon Wagner have already pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder, and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Two others, Lester Moody and Jeremy King are already serving sentences for their part in the killing. They both entered into a plea agreement with the state and were sentenced to 17 years behind bars, five of which were suspended.

Theologo died following an apparent satanic ritual in which she and her then 14-year-old friend were doused with petrol and set alight.

In his testimony, Harwood told the court that he was controlled by an evil spirit during the incident.

Judge Geraldine Borchers asked Harwood why he believed that and he replied, “because we were experimenting about the dark world and evil.”….
