Hollywood’s Culture of Abuse Helped Harvey Weinstein Thrive
10/23/2017 by Stephen Galloway
….Reading Nyong’o’s story, I asked myself: was there anything I could have done to save her or others from finding themselves in such a situation?
The truth is, many of us knew something bad was going on, and failed to speak up. But what did we know, and when? I’d heard rumors of Weinstein hitting on women, rumors of assistants tasked with procuring other women for him, though no one that I knew personally told me anything specific; and I also knew from personal experience about his bullying behavior. But I didn’t chase those stories, nor did I mention Weinstein by name in a column in July when I recalled my own unpleasant encounter with him at Cannes.
I would never on any level equate being berated by Weinstein with what Nyong’o or his other accusers must have gone through; but I discovered what it was like to be threatened face-to-face by a powerful and extremely large man, and, even if I laughed it off, deep down inside I felt worry and fear…..
Harvey Weinstein: how lawyers kept a lid on sexual harassment claims
Zelda Perkins says she was harassed by the powerful Hollywood producer. Now she wants to expose the legal process that kept her claims a secret for 19 years Matthew Garrahan in Los Angeles October 22, 2017
…. After recounting their stories to solicitors at Simons Muirhead & Burton, a London legal firm that specialises in media work, the two women were advised to seek a damages claim from Mr Weinstein. A negotiation began with Allen & Overy, the heavyweight London firm that was acting for the producer of movies such as Pulp Fiction and The English Patient.
A sum of £250,000 was agreed, to be divided equally between the two women, and a legally binding contract — a non-disclosure agreement — drawn up after several punishing late-night sessions. The women signed it and for almost two decades have not spoken about their experience…..
“I want to publicly break my non-disclosure agreement,” she says. “Unless somebody does this there won’t be a debate about how egregious these agreements are and the amount of duress that victims are put under. My entire world fell in because I thought the law was there to protect those who abided by it. I discovered that it had nothing to do with right and wrong and everything to do with money and power.” ….
Former Harvey Weinstein Assistant Breaks NDA, Details History of Cover-Ups

Zelda Perkins, who worked as Weinstein’s assistant in Miramax’s London office, claims in a new interview with Financial Times that her boss sexually harassed her and assaulted her female colleague, leading them to a settlement and strict NDA.
Dozens of women have come forward in recent weeks with claims against Harvey Weinstein, accusing the veteran film mogul of sexual assault, harassment, misconduct and rape. Many of their stories carry the same details — from hotel rooms and manipulative behavior to intimidation tactics and aggressive cover-ups — while provoking the same questions: How much did his assistants know, how tightly wound were their non-disclosure agreements and where are they now?
Zelda Perkins, who worked for Weinstein during his tenure running Miramax Films, has just answered all three in a bombshell of an interview with Financial Times. In doing so, Perkins becomes the first former staffer to come forward and publicly denounce an NDA, shedding light on how Weinstein relied on a network of lawyers to help prevent staffers from speaking out about his alleged bad behavior. She also claims that there were clauses in her contract that could have led to Weinstein’s dismissal nearly two decades ago.
The report comes just days after members of The Weinstein Co. staff released a statement requesting that they be let out of their NDAs “so we may speak openly, and get to the origins of what happened here, and how.”….
Perkins claims that Weinstein exposed himself to her, asked her for massages and requested she watch him bathe. “This was his behavior on every occasion I was alone with him. I often had to wake him up in the hotel in the mornings and he would try to pull me into bed,” she claims…..
FOOTIE ABUSE SCANDAL FA probes claims some teen footballers were forced into sickening initiation ceremonies after Manchester United’s Class of 92 describe their ‘hazing’ rituals
Former Stoke City apprentice George Blackstock claimed he was forced into a degrading ritual known as “gloving” in the early 1980s
By Aletha Adu
22nd October 2017
THE inquiry into football’s sex abuse scandal is reportedly examining claims teen footie starlets were pressured to take part in horrific initiation ceremonies.
The “hazing” rituals allegedly date back to the 1980s and 1990s, according to the Mail on Sunday.
Former Stoke City apprentice George Blackstock claimed he was forced into a degrading ritual known as “gloving” in the early 1980s.
The newspaper reports that Mr Blackstock claimed he was dragged “kicking and screaming” to the first team dressing room and then sexually assaulted with a goalkeeper’s glove as punishment because the tea he made for senior players had gone cold.
Mr Blackstock is reportedly due to give evidence to the inquiry in the next few weeks.
The Football Association review into child abuse claims in the sport was launched after Crewe defender Andy Woodward spoke out.
It led to others to come forward with historic allegations involving scouts at clubs including Manchester City and Chelsea.
Members of Manchester United’s youth team dubbed the Class of ’92, including David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Robbie Savage spoke out their own ordeals.
Beckham claimed he was forced to perform a sex act while looking at a photograph of a senior player.
Scholes was made to get int o a tumble dryer which sparked an asthma attack.
Mr Blackstock first raised his complaint in 2008, and several other apprentices supported his claim with similar allegations, the newspaper reported.
But according to reports, his claims – which did not include sexual abuse accusations – were rejected by Preston County Court in 2015.
Staffordshire cops and the Crown Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence to go further.
In a bid to keep pushing, Blackstock launched civil claims against goalkeeper Peter Fox for physical assault, and Stoke FC for “vicarious liability”, suing for £170,000.
Fox was cleared of the “gloving claim”.
Blackstock is due to give evidence for the inquiry – led by Clive Sheldon QC – in the next few weeks….
The FA review was set up after former Crewe player Andy Woodward claimed to have suffered sexual abuse as a boy in the 80s.
His disclosure – in which he waived the right to anonymity given to alleged victims of sexual offences – prompted a tide of similar complaints.
The probe has now interviewed around 15 alleged victims, and are planning to speak to an extra 20, according to reports….
Colo. Police Investigating if Voodoo Ritual Was Involved in Deaths of 2 Girls Found Decomposing in Car
By Christine Pelisek October 13, 2017
Colorado prosecutors are investigating whether a voodoo ritual was involved in the deaths of two young girls whose bodies were found last month in a car on a vacant property near Norwood, PEOPLE confirms.
“It is part of the investigation by the sheriff’s office,” 7th District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Sherry McKenzie tells PEOPLE. “It is a very concerning case whenever you find two young children deceased.”
Nashika Bramble, the 36-year-old Florida mother of the two girls, and 37-year-old Madani Ceus, of Haiti, were both charged late last week with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths. Both are also charged with two counts of child abuse resulting in death…..
“The allegations are they are the kids of Medani Ceus,” Harvey Palefsky, the attorney for Nashika Bramble tells PEOPLE.
Quartet Was Part of Traveling ‘Healing’ Group: ‘An Apocalyptic Kind of Thing’
Bramble, Ceus, Archer and Eden are purportedly members of a traveling healing group that promotes prophesies about the end of the world.
“It was an apocalyptic kind of thing,” the source says. “They are guided by their dreams. They will stay some place until they have a dream and then they go someplace else. They think they can heal people.”….
Blair’s stepfather, Donnie Blair, tells PEOPLE his stepson moved to Colorado around five years ago to grow medical marijuana and met the group in the spring.
“They were telling him they were in a jam, and he is so sweet he offered them a place to stay,” he says, adding, “Over time they broke him down. They pretty much brainwashed him.”
Donnie says they told him that “no one loved him and his friends and family are the devil. They made him burn his glasses and burn his clothes.”
Donnie says while allegedly under their control he allegedly burned his entire crop of marijuana and forced him to stop feeding his dog. “They told him his dog was sick and not to feed it anymore and don’t bring it to the vet because it is not God’s way and the dog could die in peace in a natural way,” he says.
Donnie says they also allegedly tried to starve Blair and punished him for trying to feed the two little girls. “When Frederick tried to feed the kids they wouldn’t allow it to happen,” he says…..

Hofstra fraternity accused of sickening hazing rituals
By Chris Perez December 6, 2016
Members of the Sigma Pi fraternity at Hofstra University took hazing to new heights last year — with never-before-seen pictures depicting a slew of stomach-churning rituals, including vomiting on one another and being covered from head-to-toe in hot sauce.
The images, published Tuesday by the Hofstra Chronicle, show students being subjected to a wide range of abuse over the course of the Fall 2014 and Fall 2015 pledge processes.
They were obtained during a semester-long investigation, in which numerous acts of “extreme hazing” were uncovered within the now-defunct fraternity — such as forced favors, a merit and demerit system and anti-Semitic imagery, according to the school newspaper.
In one photo, three “pledges” from the Fall class of 2015 can be seen sprawled out on the ground, with their bodies covered in flour.
Another shows a student locked in a small cage, which is intended to hold the smallest person in the pledge class.
Syed Ali John Mehdi — a former student and member of Sigma Pi’s Beta-Alpha class of Spring 2015 — told The Chronicle that the student chosen to sit in the cage is ultimately forced to remain inside for indefinite periods of time, which are then made longer if they are unable to correctly answer a question about the fraternity or its members….
Chelsea paid me £50,000 to prevent child abuse revelations – Johnson Soccer
December 2, 2016 Jon Fisher
Former Chelsea forward Gary Johnson claims he was paid £50,000 by the club to prevent him disclosing allegations of child abuse.
Johnson says he was sexually abused by Chelsea’s former chief scout Eddie Heath, who is now dead, after being groomed by him from the age of 13. Heath worked at Stamford Bridge from 1968 to 1979.
Child abuse is football’s worst-kept secret
Chelsea agreed a settlement with Johnson in relation to Heath’s conduct and it is understood to be the only claim of this nature that the club is currently dealing with.
“I think that they were paying me to keep a lid on this,” Johnson said in the Daily Mirror, which reported that Chelsea had waived the confidentiality clause in the settlement to the 57-year-old….

Three Suspects Arrested After Skeletal Remains Found in North Carolina Backyard
By Alex Heigl 10/10/2014
For the neighbors of 2749 Knob Hill Drive in Clemmons, North Carolina, the Devil lived next door.
Or at least one very devoted and misled fan. Pazuzu Illah Algarad, 35, was arrested Sunday following the discovery of skeletal remains in shallow graves in his backyard. He has been charged with murder and accessory after the fact, as has Amber Nicole Burch, 24, (described as Algarad’s wife on Facebook) and 28-year-old Krystal Nicole Matlock, who has only been charged as an accessory.
Born John Alexander Lawson in San Francisco, California, Algarad dropped out of high school and changed his name to reflect a new identity he was carving for himself. He adopted the name of Pazuzu – the demon at the center of The Exorcist – and cultivated a personality that was “a combination of Charles Manson, Anton LeVay and Alistair Crowley,” according to Camel City Dispatch. He began claiming Iraqi descent (friending real Middle Eastern jihadists on Facebook), and reportedly filed his teeth into points with a Dremel tool.
For people around Clemmons, Algarad was the local boogeyman. The house on Knob Hill (belonging to Algarad’s mother, who lived with him and Burch and is legally blind) featured a front door ominously painted black and festooned with upside-down crosses, Arabic script (that apparently read “The House of Devils”) and a long diatribe against police. A message board post from 2013 described it as “disgusting,” with refuse – human and animal – littering the floor and an overpowering odor.
One source told Camel City Dispatch that Algarad’s home was filled with “Hot Topic Satan stuff” and that “There was something about him that just made me feel terrible … Just his presence made me feel uneasy.” Another source described Lawson’s Satanic activities: Mutual blood-letting in local cemeteries, attempted arson of several churches and animal sacrifices, the latter of which were confirmed by law enforcement.
Algarad’s crimes ventured into the more prosaic, as well: In 2010, he was accused of choking his mother, who told police she was afraid of him and didn’t want to press charges, according to The Winston-Salem Journal. Also in 2010, Algarad was charged in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Joseph Emmrick Chandler, whose body was found at a local park near the Yadkin River, dead of a gunshot wound. He was convicted in 2012 as an accessory after the fact, according to multiple reports, and was on probation from that conviction when the bodies were found Sunday….
Police continue investigation of house where skeletal remains found
House was searched in 2010 but warrant is sealed
Monday, October 6, 2014 Michael Hewlett/Winston-Salem Journal
CLEMMONS – On the front door of a house where the skeletal remains of two people were found Sunday was a sign warning law-enforcement not to enter.
“No gang members allowed: anyone that dresses the same, has the same badge and call themselves the authority of the land they did not create…,” the sign said. Below and to the right is a picture of a skull and cross bones. Under that picture are the words, “Evil will triumph.”
But on Monday, deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office as well as agents with the State Bureau of Investigation were still at 2749 Knob Hill Drive, where the skeletal remains of two unidentified people were found in shallow graves in the backyard on Sunday. Few details have emerged about what led authorities to the house on Sunday and what they have found, beyond the skeletal remains….
Pazuzu Algarad was born in San Francisco as John Alexander Lawson. Lawson changed his name to Pazuzu Algarad in 2002 for religious reasons. Pazuzu is the name of an Assyrian demon whose name was used in the movie, “The Exorcist.”….
However, in 2010, Algarad was charged with accessory after the fact of involuntary manslaughter in connection to the shooting death of Joseph Emmrick Chandler. Chandler had been reported missing and his body was found June 7, 2010 at Donnaha Park near the Yadkin River. He had died from a gunshot wound. Nicholas Pasquale Rizzi of Lewisville was charged with involuntary manslaughter….
Pazuzu Algarad Arrested; Skeletal Remains Found In Yard Of ‘Evil Gods’ Worshiper
The Huffington Post By Sebastian Murdock 10/06/2014
Two North Carolina residents have been arrested after police allegedly found the skeletal remains of two people buried in a shallow grave in the couple’s back yard.
Pazuzu Illah Algarad, 35, and Amber Nicole Burch, 24, were both arrested Sunday after police executed a search warrant and found the remains, according to WXII….
Heath said Algarad told her he picked up two prostitutes at two separate locations before he killed and ate them, burning the remains in a fire pit before burying the rest.
“I never once saw the skeleton bodies, I honestly thought he was lying, now I’m not sure what to believe,” Heath said.
In an online message board discussing Algarad’s past conviction, an anonymous poster said the suspect had spoken of burying dead bodies. The post is dated 2012:
“He has bragged to other members of my family about sick things he has done and told them he has killed other people and has buried other bodies.”….
On his Facebook page, Pazuzu has a large collection of pictures featuring demonic creatures and upside down crosses. Heath described Pazuzu as a worshipper of “evil gods.”
Former football player tells of the night he was allegedly raped by his teammate
By AISHA DOW Oct. 19, 2014
The burly young Victorian footballer sits hunched and crying in the bath as his mother scrubs frantically to remove the words “whore” and “slut”, which have been scrawled upon his naked body in lipstick.
It has been years since Ben, 21, has cried. But today the tears wiggle down his face and into the stained bathwater, as the Warrandyte seconds player heaves and sobs like a child.
The night before the biological science student had been staying at a teammate’s house when he says he was repeatedly attacked by a group of older players….
Australian experts believe that male-to-male abuse within sporting clubs could be as prevalent as in other masculine environments, such as the military, where crimes have been well documented….
Sexual assaults linked to team bonding also regularly make headlines in the United States. In Vermont, high school football players reportedly sexually assaulted younger players with broomsticks or pool cues.
Australian research has shown that only about 35 per cent of recent sexual assault victims report the crime to police. Ms Worth said the proportion of silent victims could be even higher for male victims assaulted by their sporting teammates.
Men who have been raped typically stayed silent, Ms Worth says, because they feel humiliated and worried what people will think of them. “Then there’s the perception that this is not something that happens to ‘real blokes’ – it happens to girls.”
Yet, Dr Michael Flood, an expert in gender issues, says there has been a long history of men being “initiated” into workplaces through practices that involve peoples’ genitals or bodies. Dr Flood, who has worked on studies for the AFL, said sometimes these rituals slide into sexual assault.
The term “hazing” is most often used to describe college initiations in the United States, he says. In Australia and the Australian Defence Force in particular, acts commonly involving “physically stressful and ritualistic practices” have been better known as bastardisation….
Male sexual assault expert Sarah Crome says men who had been sexually assaulted as adults tend to experience similar effects as female survivors, including psychiatric disorders and relationship and behavioural problems.
“Self harming and compulsive behaviour including self-mutilation, reckless behaviour like driving dangerously, drug and alcohol abuse and work addiction are widespread complaints. Suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts are not uncommon,” she says.
Dr Flood said men who had been sexually abused in hazing rituals were also likely to be dealing with some distinct troubles. “Being assaulted by peers as part of behaviour that is semi-public and condoned would add to the trauma and distress of the experience,” he said….
